ABOUT DAVID LYONS
David Lyons is a retired homicide detective, law enforcement educator, author, and co-host of the award-winning Murder Police Podcast. With nearly three decades of experience on the front lines, David brings a unique and credible voice to the true crime world. His mission? To bridge the gap between professional investigators and the passionate true crime community through education, collaboration, and advocacy for victims and survivors.

His debut book, True Crime & Consequences, explores the fine line between help and harm when amateur sleuths, influencers, and podcast hosts insert themselves into real murder investigations. It’s a timely, gripping, and much-needed look at the unintended consequences of digital vigilantism—and how we can all do better.
Advanced Praise for True Crime & Consequences
David's book provides insightful information about how members of social media groups such as the one I created can really make a difference in providing assistance to families and law enforcement alike! We all have the same mission: Bring our missing home and justice for our murdered.
~Sandra Hasty, mother of missing adult presumed dead.
This book is a must read for fans of the true crime genre, who want to better understand the mechanics behind the investigation, as well as why the police are sometimes reluctant to discuss active cases with civilians.
~John Schwartz, NYPD Detective 1st Grade (retired)

True Crime and Consequences serves as a bridge between the True Crimers and the Police Department. David lays out a clear path to open communication so that both parties can realize their common goal, work together, and make sure justice is appropriately administered. As a Murder Cop, himself, David is the perfect person to write this long overdue book.
~Scott Harvey
Speaker, Coach, author of Silence Kills
David's book is a must-read for families like mine. It provides an omniscient overview of how we can all effectively assist law enforcement without overstepping boundaries.
~Jennifer Gorley Coffey, surviving family member
True Crime and Consequences ignites a long-overdue conversation about the razor-thin line between curiosity, tenacity and obsession in the pursuit of justice. Blending sharp wit, unflinching truths and hard-hitting facts, it dives into the complex world of solving open murder cases at a time when true crime has become both a cultural fixation and a stark reality for those still seeking answers. For many, the genre is entertainment—a way to pass the time, unwind or spark conversation. But for victims and their families, these stories aren’t just headlines or case files; they’re lived nightmares that demand respect, care and relentless dedication.
~Kristen Pflum
Former TV news reporter and host of the Edward R. Murrow award-winning podcast Taking Alex
